Avalon appoints “junior” council members

Two Northgate High School seniors became “junior” members of Avalon Council Tuesday evening, after council adopted a resolution authorizing the borough’s participation in the Pennsylvania State Boroughs Association (PSBA program. Pictured here, Mayor Tom Lloyd administers a special “oath of office” to Laela Lumsden and Luke Meyer, who will serve until June 18. 2019. Council member Ruth Lloyd headed the borough’s participation in the program and interviewed the interested students. Originally the borough planned to have only one junior member, but Ruth Lloyd said that both Laela and Luke presented themselves so well that both were chosen. The junior members will meet with elected council members to come up with specific projects and assignments. Both of the young Avalon residents said that they felt they could add a valuable youth perspective to issues addressed by council.
